Welcome to the home of The Gingerbread Mam. All my products are home-made by me from my kitchen in Norton, Stockton on Tees, where I live with my husband and children. I’m passionate about food and drink as are the rest of my family, we love nothing more than cooking a family meal using the best possible ingredients.
It was through my love for cooking that 3 years ago one Sunday morning with the kids in our bed we came up with an idea for a farmers’ market stall selling unique ginger goodies, after lots of name suggestions we settled upon The Gingerbread Mam. I’ve always been a ‘mam’ and not a ‘mum’ it’s a Northern thing!
Within a few weeks we had a stall at our first ever farmers’ market in the beautiful stunning village of Middleton in Teesdale, we took our ginger wine, ginger parkin, gingerbread boys and girls, ginger pokey and ginger shortbread, we had a great day taking turns behind the stall, this was the start of what’s now become a full time family run business. We now do 7 markets/month and as many food festivals and events as we can fit in. We also supply 11 shops/deli’s and restaurants in the area too.
All of our goodies are made using the best possible ingredients, full fat organic milk, best butter, our own free range eggs courtesy of the 2 lovely ladies Gladys & Annie and where possible we use our own fruit and veg too!
Recipes are mostly from my grandmothers, Nana Gladys and Nana Annie who were both an inspiration to me and my sister while we were growing up, we were lucky enough to eat freshly made rice puddings, egg custard tarts, cinder toffee, corned beef pies, freshly baked stottie cakes, shin stews, apple pies, oxtail soup…there was never a ready meal to be found in our house! Making the most of left overs was always the way, once my Nana Annie made a leg of lamb go into 5 different meals, starting with roast lamb and finishing with shepherds pie-she could give Jamie Oliver a run for his money all right
